How do we journey into the truth?

My dear beloved, I greet you in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Today we will focus on the words of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ from the book of John.

Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. (John 16:13)

In the beginning, God created man in His own image and wanted to have an eternal fellowship. But because of the sin of Adam and Eve, man lost the perfect image of God and became sinful and lost the glory and fellowship of God. On the same day, God announced the way for the sinful man to return unto God. That is “the seed of the woman”. In God’s appointed time, the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who is the seed of the woman, accomplished the will of God on the cross of Calvary and prepared the way for men to come back to God.

The purpose of Jesus is to open the way for a sinner to become a believer. But the responsibility of leading him through the way was taken by the Holy Spirit. He cannot take that responsibility unless the way is opened. That is what the Lord told the disciples in John 16:7 when the Lord goes, the comforter comes and takes the responsibility of leading them into all truth.

When a sinner borns again, he becomes a part of the body of Christ. The body of Christ is the collection of all the believers in this whole world. This is also called “the Church”. The head of the Church is Jesus himself.

Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body (Ephesians 5:23)

We know that the Lord returns again to take his church to be with him forever in heaven. But what is the purpose of the body of Christ on the earth till it is taken?

For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son (Romans 8:29)

But what is the image of the Son? (He) is the image of the invisible God (Colossians 1:15). Here, I remember what happened in the garden of Eden. Satan told Eve that if they eat the forbidden fruit, they would become like God. Satan deceived Eve by showing the wrong fruit to achieve what God has already purposed for them. So now the correct path is established for men to be transformed into the image of Son, which is the image of God himself. The process of this transformation is carried out by the Holy Spirit. Now let’s see how He does this job so wonderfully.

1 Corinthians 12:4-7 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.

First, the Holy Spirit gives various spiritual gifts to each member of the body of Christ. The purpose of these gifts is for the profit of all the members of that body. From 1 Corinthians 12:8-10 if we see, there are various gifts given to each believer but “… all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will. (1 Corinthians 12:11)”. So God gave various gifts of Spirit and appointed various offices for the upbringing of the body of Christ.

And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues. (1 Corinthians 12:28)

The responsibility given to these offices is to edify the body of Christ through the ministry given to them. Also, the responsibility of each member is to use the gift he has to edify another member of the body of Christ. And this happens under the control and leadership of the Holy Spirit.

So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another. (Romans 12:5)

The meaning of the above verse is we are many but part of one body in Christ and we are there in the body for each other and not for our own selves. “For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself (Romans 14:7) “. In Ephesians, we can see a more clear picture.

Ephesians 4:11-13 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ

The purpose of various offices is to make each member of the body of Christ perfect. This is instituted until we all (not some) come in the unity of the faith and the knowledge of the Son of God. The complete truth is “THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE SON OF GOD” and a perfect believer is the one who is grown into the stature of the FULLNESS OF CHRIST.

I don’t know whether you could identify the secret here. You and I are not there in the body of Christ just for own salvation, but for edifying each other according to the will and guidance of God through the Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit uses each one of us to lead others through various gifts he gave according to His own will. The secret now is the fellowship of saints. Without the fellowship of saints, the edification of the church is not possible.

When God gives time again, let’s see how various offices would help us to come to the fullness of Christ. Till then, the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, be with you all. Amen. (2 Corinthians 13:14)
